The information was provided by Prosecutor Ewa Węglarowicz-Makowska – Press Spokesperson for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra:
The inspection of the scene, conducted under the supervision of the Deputy District Prosecutor in Bolesławiec, has now been completed. During these activities, a black-powder revolver firearm was secured. The perpetrator fired at least two shots from this weapon at police officers. The firearm will be examined by ballistic experts. It has so far been established that the perpetrator was a 20-year-old man, Paweł B., a resident of Bolesławiec, who had been receiving psychiatric treatment since 2020. He had no previous criminal convictions. No domestic-intervention calls had been reported previously either.
At approximately 7:00 p.m. in Bolesławiec, a 20-year-old man fired at least two shots from the black-powder revolver through a closed door at two police officers intervening in the incident. One of the officers was wounded in the head and transported in serious condition to a hospital in Wrocław. The investigation findings show that at approximately 6:45 p.m. on July 3, the duty officer at the Bolesławiec County Police Headquarters, after receiving a report of a domestic disturbance, sent two experienced officers from the prevention department to the scene. The responding officers entered the apartment, where they found Paweł B. barricaded in the bathroom. When the officers began to withdraw, the perpetrator committed suicide by shooting himself in the head with the same weapon. It was a black-powder revolver, a type of firearm for which no permit is required,
The police officer is currently in serious but stable condition.
An investigation into attempted murder is currently under way. During the investigation, an autopsy of the perpetrator will be conducted. Ballistic and other specialist examinations will be carried out to comprehensively clarify the circumstances of the incident.
