Shooting in Bolesławiec. 20-year-old shot a police officer in the head

The incident occurred on July 3 after 7:00 p.m. in a building on Ślusarska Street in Bolesławiec. Police, the fire brigade and ambulances are at the scene. The injured police officer was taken to hospital. The perpetrator has not been apprehended, and we do not know the reason for the attack or the type of weapon used. The 20-year-old who shot the police officer is still in the apartment.

The young man allegedly shot at the police officer during an intervention. Neighbors provided this information. A police operation to apprehend the aggressor alive is still underway. Police are appealing for caution and asking people to stay away from the area where the operation is being conducted.

Update 9:03 p.m.

We have learned unofficially that the perpetrator is dead. The prosecutor's office is not officially confirming this information for now. – Activities are still underway; everything must be established thoroughly, and then I will be able to provide information – said Sebastian Woźniak, a prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Bolesławiec.

Update 9:50 p.m.

– Police officers were called to intervene at one of the apartments. The caller was the man's mother. It concerned her son, who was causing a disturbance. When they entered the apartment, the son was in a locked room. A shot was fired from that room through the closed door toward a police officer. The officer suffered head injuries and was subsequently transported to one of the hospitals. These are serious injuries. A moment later, because the man had barricaded himself in that room, another shot was heard from it. This happened before police negotiators arrived, as reinforcements had of course been called to the scene in this situation. As it turned out, the man had committed suicide – staff sergeant Łukasz Dutkowiak, Spokesperson for the Commander of the Provincial Police in Wrocław

– There was no contact between him and the police officers because the door remained closed the entire time. Earlier, we had no information that the man might possess a firearm. This was not indicated in the report – the spokesperson added.
