– The driver had no documents confirming the origin of the goods. The transport had not been registered in the SENT system – explains Agnieszka Rzeźnicka-Gniadek, spokesperson for the Lower Silesian KAS.
She adds:
In the inspected lorry, Customs and Tax Service officers found 99 cartons containing tobacco leaf without Polish excise stamps, weighing over 13.8 tonnes. The estimated market value of the seized contraband is over PLN 9 million.
The 33-year-old driver now faces imprisonment and a fine. He will also have to pay between PLN 5,000 and PLN 7,500 for failing to report the goods in the SENT system.
What is SENT?
SENT is the Electronic Transport Supervision System for so-called sensitive goods, such as fuel, alcohol, tobacco, medicines, waste, meat products and vegetable oils. The system's main purpose is to eliminate cross-border crime.
