Joanna Strzelecka (Koalicja Obywatelska) resigned from her mandate as a councillor of the Bolesławiec City Council effective 29 May 2024.

The decision resulted from a conflict of interest related to her business activity in property management, including municipal properties.

Strzelecka stressed that honesty toward voters prompted her to resign, even though she was unaware that the regulations would apply to her.

The next candidate for her seat is Dagmara Sobolska, followed immediately by Sylwester Łasocha.

It should be added that Joanna Strzelecka received 241 votes in the election. Dagmara Sobolska received 95 votes, while Sylwester Łasocha received 92 votes.

Why can’t a councillor’s mandate be combined with managing municipal property?

Combining a councillor’s mandate with managing municipal property is inadmissible because it may lead to a conflict of interest. A councillor who manages municipal property could use their position to obtain personal benefits or favour their business activities. Such a situation violates the principles of transparency and integrity in the exercise of public functions, undermining citizens’ trust in the impartiality and reliability of decisions made by the councillor. Therefore, legal regulations prohibit combining these two roles.
