While patrolling the streets of Kąty Wrocławskie, traffic police officers noticed a man driving a Volkswagen. The officers had no objections to the vehicle itself, in which the 44-year-old resident of Mietków municipality was travelling. Allegations arose only after they checked the driver in the police database.
When the officers entered the man's details into the system, it quickly emerged that he had no authorisation to drive vehicles and had never obtained one, while the driving licence he presented differed in appearance from the original at first glance.
Experienced police officers noticed that the blank document lacked, among other things, the security features required for this type of document, and that the print quality was poor. Although the driver initially insisted that he had passed his driving test in Ukraine, he eventually admitted that he had bought the “document”, whose authenticity had aroused the officers’ suspicions, for around PLN 2,000 across the eastern border.
The 44-year-old came up with the idea of taking the exam and obtaining a licence in Ukraine after, as he himself stated, 10 unsuccessful attempts to pass the national driving test.
The court will now decide the man's further fate. Let us recall that using a forged driving licence is punishable by up to 5 years in prison.
