I Liceum Ogólnokształcące has organized celebrations of European Foreign Languages Day since 2003. This school event is intended both to educate and entertain. Each year, individual I LO classes prepare stands representing countries drawn in advance. On Tuesday, November 30, the school was filled with a veritable kaleidoscope of colorful figures.
– This time, we focused on distinctive countries – says Magdalena Malińska, coordinator of this year’s celebrations. – We are a creative school, so we allowed our students to let loose a little.
The winning stand was presented by class II b (Russia). Class II f (Japan) took second place, I a (Brazil) third, and II c (Greece) fourth. Honorable mentions went to classes II a (Great Britain) and III f (Egypt).
There were also competitions related to languages. In the competitions on English-speaking countries, France, and European literature, the winner was Laura Rzeźwicka from I b. Kamil Żabierek (II a) proved best in the competition on Italy, while the competition on German-speaking countries was won by Magdalena Kubat (II c).
The foreign-language song contest “Lingua et musica,” organized by teacher Agata Kozicka, crowned the celebrations. Everyone gathered in the I LO auditorium had the opportunity to hear 14 performers.
The jury, consisting of Aleksandra Sozańska-Kut, Marek Łętowski and Sławomir Zimniak, awarded third prize to Kamila Chrobot, Dominika Majewska, Hanna Woźnica and Anita Kaczmarek for the song “Hallelujah” from Leonard Cohen’s repertoire. Second place was shared by Katarzyna Cichewicz (I b) with the band Random for the song “Open Your Eyes” by Guano Apes, and Karolina Wereszczuk, Noemi Kuśnierz and Artur Chruścicki for Shakira’s “Waka Waka.” First prize went to Żaklina Ber, who sang “Milord” from Edith Piaf’s repertoire.
Honorable mentions went to Estella Ilczyna from II d for Rihanna’s “Rude Boy,” and Magdalena Czyż and Alicja Kołacz for “Sakura Kiss” from Chieko Kawabe’s repertoire. The celebrations were enhanced by the musical “Mamma Mia,” prepared by Aleksandra Sozańska-Kut.
