Update at 3:00 p.m.

– The situation has changed completely – Bartosz Wojciechowski now tells us. Passport offices in Bolesławiec, Zgorzelec and Kąty Wrocławskie are to open as early as June. Now agreements must be signed with three local governments; in the case of Bolesławiec, with the City Hall.

The spokesperson emphasizes that DUW will do everything possible to ensure that these offices open as early as June.

We have reported on the passport office in Bolesławiec several times. (Most recently in the article: What about the passport office? Roman talks about the voivode’s negligence. “We are ready”).

Why has it still not opened? We asked Bartosz Wojciechowski, the press spokesperson for the Lower Silesian Voivode, who explained to us that the office would open in the second half of this year. The reason? According to the spokesperson, the new team inherited a “terrible mess” from its predecessors: 40,000 unresolved cases. As a result, the entire Department of Civil Affairs and Foreigners at DUW had to be reorganized. (A request was even made to create more positions.) Officials in the department are currently dealing with the most urgent matters.

In a conversation with the istotne.pl portal, Bartosz Wojciechowski emphasized that the Voivode is not abandoning the idea of opening a passport office in the City of Ceramics, but is asking for a little patience.
