A Reader called us and informed us that the toilets at a food-service venue located by the Bolesławiec Market Square have been closed for some time. – There are no toilets or washbasins – the person who reported the matter emphasized. And added: – They are locked.

The Reader also mentioned that the venue’s customers are directed to the toilets in the nearby shopping gallery or even... to the railway station. According to the Reader, “there should be an open toilet and washbasin there for customers”.

We asked the sanitary inspection about the matter. As it turned out, the problem was reported to the Bolesławiec PSSE on May 7. Maria Paralusz, head of the Food Safety and Nutrition Department:

(...) explanatory proceedings were undertaken on 07/05/24, as a result of which information was obtained from the establishment’s owner that “the toilet broke while being used by customers, and a repair company that could unblock the toilet is being sought”.

She also added:

Today, information was obtained that the toilet in question is now operational. In order to verify this, an inspection will be carried out at the establishment without delay.

What does the law say about toilets in food-service establishments?

Maria Paralusz:

Pursuant to § 84(1) of the Regulation of the Minister of Infrastructure of April 12, 2002, on the technical conditions to be met by buildings and their location, publicly accessible toilets must be provided. If the number of people in rooms intended for human occupancy on a given floor is less than 10, the toilet may be located on the nearest floor above or below. Pursuant to § 3 of the aforementioned regulation, public-use buildings include, among others, buildings intended for trade and food service.
