This initiative aims not only to educate young people about fire safety, but also to foster their interest in serving others and supporting the local emergency response system.
The MDP’s first official session took place on Saturday, 27 April, and was filled with enthusiasm from both the young participants and their instructors. The children had the opportunity to see firefighting equipment, including fire engines that play a key role in rescue operations, up close for the first time. The session began with a brief theoretical introduction, during which the young participants learned the basic principles of safety and how the OSP unit operates.
Next came the practical introduction to the equipment. Each child was able to examine items such as fire hoses, ladders, hydraulic tools, oxygen-therapy equipment and protective gear up close. The instructors patiently and enthusiastically answered numerous questions, explaining how each device is used during real rescue operations.
The Youth Fire Brigade initiative in Wierzbowa is not only a response to the need for education in fire safety and rescue, but also an important element in building a strong, cooperative community. Through such activities, the younger generation in Wierzbowa has the opportunity to develop responsibility, interpersonal skills and technical abilities that may benefit them in the future, both personally and professionally.
The Volunteer Fire Department in Wierzbowa is investing in young people, and the MDP’s first session showed that this is a step in the right direction.
