On Thursday, 25 November, a press conference was held at the headquarters of the Bolesławiec County Office, attended by Karol Stasik, head of the county PO, Stanisław Chwojnicki, chairman of the SLD County Council, and Marian Haniszewski, president of the PSL County Board. During the meeting, the three groups formally signed a coalition agreement.

The document states: “Civic Platform of the Republic of Poland, the Polish People's Party and the Democratic Left Alliance, guided by the interests of the residents of Bolesławiec County and a sense of responsibility towards society, hereby decide to form a PO-PSL and SLD coalition […] for the duration of the fourth term of the county self-government (in 2010–2014).”

“We assess the third term as very good,” Karol Stasik said during Thursday’s conference. “The county authorities recorded a number of significant successes. And if something is functioning so well, it should be continued.”

The head of the county Civic Platform emphasized that the coalition partners were open to cooperation with councillors from other groups: “The core of the coalition will consist of these three parties, but we will continue talks with other clubs. We want to bring into the coalition groups whose programmes are similar to ours.”

“The priorities we set for ourselves during the previous term remain unchanged: healthcare, roads and education,” Stasik stated. “However, we intend to supplement them with measures supporting the region’s economic development and its promotion. What is more, we want to change how the county office operates—the official’s primary duty should be to serve the residents.”

We will not find out who will become the county head until the beginning of December. “Of course, we have a candidate for the position, but it is too early to talk about it,” Karol Stasik said.

“By joining the coalition with PO and PSL during the third term, we wanted to show that a left-wing party is capable of managing Bolesławiec County well,” Stanisław Chwojnicki said. “We passed that test, as the election results also demonstrate. SLD was responsible for roads and social assistance. The condition of the roads improved, and the hospital is also in better shape. Of course, there are always certain shortcomings, but during this term we intend to eliminate them. As part of the new coalition, we also intend to implement our left-wing programme.”

In the elections to the County Council, the Polish People's Party won two seats. “I would certainly have wished for a better result,” Marian Haniszewski said. “But we are pleased with these two seats, especially since it is becoming increasingly difficult to remain on the political scene. What matters most to me is that we can reach agreement with our coalition partners and achieve consensus. We also already have a certain wealth of experience, which will make it easier for us to work during this term.”
