On Wednesday, 17 November, a sports complex built as part of the “My Field – Orlik 2012” programme opened at II Liceum Ogólnokształcące in Bolesławiec. The ceremony was attended, among others, by local government officials and headteachers of county upper-secondary schools.

The funds for constructing the facility were secured by the Bolesławiec County Board. “It was important to me that the Orlik be built in this particular part of town. Most investments of this kind are usually located near the centre. I would not want young residents of any of Bolesławiec’s districts to be treated worse,” stresses Dariusz Kwaśniewski of the County Board.

“This is a very important, joyful and long-awaited day for the school,” says Beata Sulska, headteacher of II LO. “This facility will serve not only the secondary school’s students, but also the entire local community. I would like to thank the county authorities, led by starosta Cezary Przybylski, for ensuring that the Orlik was built right here, at II Liceum Ogólnokształcące.”

The investment was worth PLN 1.2 million. The state budget and the Self-Government of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship each allocated PLN 333,000 for this purpose. The remaining PLN 534,000 was contributed by the Bolesławiec County Office.

Due to restrictive rules in previous years, only a few counties could participate in the “My Field – Orlik 2012” programme, which was aimed primarily at municipalities. In 2008, municipalities in Lower Silesia built 49 fields, while counties built only two. Last year, 53 fields opened, including just one county facility. In 2010, 40 municipal complexes and 9 county complexes will be built in our voivodeship.
