Participation in sessions and committee meetings is among councillors’ basic duties. We checked how councillors from the outgoing term fulfilled their responsibilities.

The person most frequently absent from sessions was Andrzej Żuk. He was absent from 20 of 60 sessions. Jadwiga Stachów was absent 15 times. Both councillors are running in the election again. Andrzej Żuk received the number-one spot from Piotr Roman on one of the lists, while Jadwiga Stachów received number two on the PiS list.

Another major absentee was Dariusz Filistyński, whose mandate expired during the term. Before that, however, he had 15 absences. Dominik Chodyra once again showed a lack of commitment, with 12 absences. We write “once again” because he was also a councillor several years ago, and at that time he missed more than half of the sessions and committee meetings.

The ranking of the biggest truants is completed by Dawid Kołodziej, who was absent from 10 sessions.

There are also people on the council who take their responsibilities seriously. Two councillors did not miss a single session. They are: Zdzisław Abramowicz and Dawid Sarbak.

Let us recall that 14 years ago we already wrote about the problem of failing to attend sessions in an article titled: The Laziest Councillors. The council’s chairwoman at the time, Janina Piestrak-Babijczuk, commented on councillors’ absences during meetings as follows: – I do not know why some people join the Council. Being a councillor is a civic duty. Anyone who has been given a councillor’s mandate should participate in the life of the city. That is precisely why one becomes a councillor. Meanwhile, some councillors do not attend committee meetings, and as a result they are later unfamiliar with the matters discussed at sessions. This is why Council meetings run longer, even though they should proceed efficiently and substantively.
