A year ago, we reported on Kamil Makoś’s gold medal at the World Championships. At the time, Kamil was unbeatable in the 10-kilometre race in the M40 category.

At this year’s European Masters Championships (for people over 35) in Toruń, the Bolesławiec resident won more titles. This time, he took silver in the 8-kilometre cross-country race and gold in the team event (three athletes scored points for the team).

Our champion Kamil nevertheless feels slightly unsatisfied. That is because he came very close to achieving the highest goals pursued by every true athlete.

Kamil Makoś on his performance at the European Championships:

If you cannot have what you like, you have to like what you have. That is how I can sum it up. I lost the gold in the final metres. The positive is that I lost to a fellow Pole (Mariusz Giżyński, a multiple Polish Championship medallist).

Well, that is sport. Last year I was the World Champion in the 10-kilometre race, and now I have to settle for individual silver, although there was a good chance of gold.

I went for a medal, regardless of its colour, but when the opportunity arose, why not fight for gold? It did not work out. Well, a medal is a medal. There is gold as well, but in the team classification.

As the gazetaregionalna.com service reports:

This year’s 14th European Masters Indoor Championships and European Masters Marathon Championships are attended by a total of 3,442 athletes from 38 European countries and 18 countries outside the Old Continent. The Polish “masters” team numbers 977 people. The tournament programme includes 23 events, held mainly at Arena Toruń. The throwing events take place at the Municipal Stadium, while the cross-country events—so fortunate for the athletes of Darsoft Running Team—are held in the Rudelka municipal forest.
