Bolesławiec police on the incident:

During earthworks in Parowa, the person who reported the incident encountered an unusual sight. They noticed an unexploded ordnance protruding from the ground, probably dating from World War II. Until the arrival of the bomb-disposal patrol, officers from the Police Station in Nowogrodziec secured the area around the discovery to ensure the safety of local residents.

The item was removed after an efficient evacuation operation involving about 20 residents whose homes were within a 300-metre radius of the officers’ work site. The unexploded ordnance turned out to be a mortar shell, which was removed by soldiers from the bomb-disposal patrol of the 23rd Silesian Artillery Regiment in Bolesławiec. Accompanied by police, the soldiers transported the dangerous find away.

Bolesławiec police remind the public of the need to notify the relevant services if an object that may be unexploded ordnance is discovered. Leaving it in place poses a serious threat to the life and health of others.

Despite the passage of time, finds of this kind can still be very dangerous. Digging them up or attempting to disarm them is prohibited. They must not be touched, moved, kicked or sawn.
