In mid-February, Wrocław’s Gazeta Wyborcza looked into the case of the former parish priest of the Parish of St. Maternus the Martyr in Lubomierz, Rev. Andrzej Łuczyński. Information gathered by journalists from that outlet indicates that a large part of the suspended priest’s parishioners liked him. And many people simply do not believe in this alleged sexual scandal.

Moreover, after we published the parish priest’s statement at the beginning of January (Priest Andrzej Łuczyński suspended. Accused of intimate contacts with women from the parish. “Lies and slander”), a parishioner from Tomaszów Bolesławiecki called us and said reproachfully that these accusations were certainly made up, because the priest himself had never tried to court her.

In a conversation with Wyborcza, the priest summed up the matter as follows: – I gave my word to the bishop, so for now, until the matter is fully clarified, I will not comment. The newspaper reported, however, that the priest “filed a civil lawsuit against the couple.” (This concerns the R. couple mentioned in the January statement – editor’s note: istotne.pl).

Rev. Waldemar Wesołowski, spokesperson for the Legnica curia, replied to Wyborcza as follows:

As of January 3, 2024, in connection with the ongoing procedure, the parish priest was suspended from performing his duties as parish priest in Lubomierz. On January 4, 2024, violating the bishop’s decision, he published a statement on the parish website containing false information about the situation.

(…) in order to avoid further confusion and facilitate clarification of the matter, Rev. Andrzej Łuczyński was sent to the Home for Retired Priests in Lwówek Śląski, with permission to celebrate Mass and administer other sacraments.
