– On Thursday, 8 February, during official duties aimed at preventing and combating illegal migration in Bolesławiec County, officers of the Border Guard from the Polish-German Joint Facility based in Ludwigsdorf received information about a man, probably a foreign national, who was trying to break into a house on private property – reports 2nd Lt. of the Border Guard Paweł Biskupik, press spokesperson for the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.
He adds: – Because the Border Guard officers were serving close to the scene, they immediately drove to the indicated address in Gmina Nowogrodziec. They also called police officers to the address. A moment later, the border guards from the Polish-German patrol caught a young Ukrainian man in the act as he was breaking into one of the single-family homes.
The foreign national did not comply with the officers’ orders and instructions; with every passing moment, he became increasingly nervous and aggressive. What is more, he suddenly attacked three officers intervening at the scene—two from the Zgorzelec Border Guard facility and an officer of the German Federal Police (BPol).
The result? The spokesperson says:
The Ukrainian man was quickly subdued and direct coercive measures in the form of handcuffs were used against him, but he managed to injure the intervening Border Guard officers.
He adds: – The 31-year-old, who until recently had been seeking permission to obtain temporary residence in Poland, jeopardized everything through his conduct. The foreign national was detained for insulting and violating the bodily integrity of public officials and, in accordance with the authorities’ competences, handed over to Bolesławiec police officers. The man will also face charges for attempted burglary. Independently of this, administrative proceedings were initiated against the Ukrainian man concerning an obligation to return.
By court decision, the foreign national will stand trial while remaining at liberty. He faces up to 10 years in prison.
