As the person who reported the issue informed us, the potholes in the center of Nowogrodziec have been repaired. They summed it up tellingly:

Andrzej Drąg, deputy mayor of Nowogrodziec:

In response to the inquiry (...), we inform you that the streetlamp in the parking lot on Szpitalna Street belonged to the now-defunct “INCO-VERITAS” plant. The lamp was powered from the plant’s grounds, which are now privately owned. Lighting the parking lot on Szpitalna Street requires designing and constructing a new road-lighting line, which in turn requires securing appropriate funds in the municipal budget.

He adds:

Repairing asphalt surfaces during the winter is more difficult because this is the period when bituminous-mix plants suspend production. Filling a defect with crushed stone is a temporary solution, and the asphalt surface will be restored once the bituminous-mix plant with which our contractor has a contract resumes production.

Two years ago, Gmina Nowogrodziec took over several important streets in Nowogrodziec from Powiat Bolesławiecki, including Szpitalna, Kolejowa, Mickiewicza, Łużycka, Ołdrzychowska, Kościelna and Bolesławiecka streets. These roads were neglected and require substantial financial outlays, and their renovation will take many years. On Szpitalna Street, we renovated the sidewalks; on Kolejowa Street, tree-care pruning was carried out and additional storm-drain inlets were installed. We have also begun renovating Mickiewicza Street. Last year, we laid a new asphalt surface on part of the road; this year, we will carry out a major renovation of the remaining section of Mickiewicza Street, including the storm drainage system, sidewalks, driveways, asphalt surface and road lighting.

Let us recall. On February 8, a reader wrote to us: — “Szpitalna looks like the Wild West. It is right in the city center, 300–400 meters from the Market Square.”

And added:

There is no lighting on the street. The lighting is only on one side because the street actually consists of two carriageways. One is lit, while the other, by the Chinese market, is not. Egyptian darkness. Patching potholes in the road consists only of spreading crushed stone, and that is it.
