For the twentieth-anniversary celebration of the Agora bookshop, its owners – the Witas family – invited an exceptional guest. Adam Tadeusz Bąkowski is one of the most important collaborators of the Paris-based “Kultura” and a distinguished poet. The poet was introduced by Rafał Bubnicki, a Solidarity activist and journalist who now lectures in the journalism department at the University of Wrocław.
“Adam is not only a poet; he is also a great connoisseur of poetry,” Rafał Bubnicki said as he introduced the guest. “I am always impressed by how many poems he has read and by how he is constantly searching bookshops for new volumes of poetry.”
Adam Tadeusz Bąkowski read several of his poems to the audience, including those published in “Kultura.”
Józefa Witas, summing up the twenty years of running the bookshop, highlighted receiving the two most important distinctions for her work. In a competition for the most active bookshop, the Polish Chamber of Books honored Bolesławiec’s Agora with the title “Master of Reading Promotion.” Józefa Witas was also honored with the Ikar award, given by the publishing and bookselling industry, which she received together with Father Twardowski at Agnieszka Osiecka’s studio on radio station Trójka.
Józefa Witas’s plans for the future include running the bookshop, promoting reading and, above all, organizing author meetings. It is worth recalling that Józefa Witas’s guests have included Tadeusz Różewicz, Father Tadeusz Isakowicz-Zaleski and Tymoteusz Karpowicz.
The editorial team of the IstotneInformacje.pl newspaper and portal wishes her professional success and congratulates her on her wonderfully managed enterprise.
