Bolesławiec police received a report that in one of the shops in a rural area, a customer had paid with a counterfeit 100-zloty banknote. Police: – The cashier’s reaction and the immediate passing of the information to officers of the Criminal Division of the County Police Headquarters in Bolesławiec enabled the uniformed officers to take swift action. During their inquiries, police learned that shortly beforehand, another counterfeit banknote of the same denomination had also been used to pay at another shop in Bolesławiec County.

Analysis of surveillance footage and a series of actions carried out by the officers led to the arrest of a 22-year-old resident of Bolesławiec. In the room occupied by the suspect, the officers seized a printer. What is more, the 22-year-old had 9 counterfeit 100-zloty banknotes with the same serial number and 4 counterfeit 50-zloty banknotes in his trouser pocket.

Further intensive police work resulted in the arrest of a second person suspected of counterfeiting money. At the home of the 44-year-old resident of Zgorzelec County, a further 8 counterfeit banknotes and a printer were seized. In addition, the officers established that the older of the two arrested men had also used a counterfeit banknote in one of the shops in Bolesławiec.

They add: – The case may develop further, as investigators are verifying whether the arrested men have committed other similar offences.

The arrested accomplices were brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Bolesławiec, where they were charged. The court then remanded both men in temporary custody for three months.
