Bolesławiec blood donors have finally got their wish! Today, a permanent blood donation center was opened.
– We support all initiatives of this kind. We know how serious the blood shortage is and how urgently hospitals in Lower Silesia need it – says Cezary Przybylski, Marshal of Lower Silesia. – For years there was a mobile bus, but that was inconvenient. People who give what is most precious – blood – and who save lives should be able to do so in truly decent conditions.
The Marshal's Office of the Lower Silesian Voivodeship allocated PLN 300,000 for this purpose.
– I saw this facility some time ago and noticed the enormous amount of work – recalls Bolesławiec Mayor Piotr Roman. – It is pleasing that blood donors are being given proper conditions in which to carry out their mission. I am personally involved in this as well; several times, lives in my family have been saved thanks to blood donors giving blood.
All local governments in Bolesławiec County contributed to establishing the center, according to population proportions.
– There are more than 800 blood donors in Bolesławiec County—people who regularly donate blood, saving the lives of, among others, residents of our county – emphasizes Bolesławiec County Starost Tomasz Gabrysiak. – I am very pleased that the blood donation center finally has a permanent location, providing a high standard of comfort both for the employees who operate it and, above all, for our blood donors. Now, in principle, blood can be donated at any time, without waiting for the bus, which used to appear in Bolesławiec only periodically.
He adds: – It is also good that all the local governments—all six municipalities and the County itself—decided to co-finance this investment. I think this problem has been solved for the coming decades.
Let us recall. At the beginning of February, a Reader wrote to us:
(…) perhaps you could write about the fact that people donating blood have to wait in the frost, rain and wind for three hours in Bolesławiec just to help another person.
She added: – And there was supposed to be a permanent blood donation center in Bolesławiec..... so where is it?!!!!!!!
Indeed, last November we reported that a modern blood donation center (100 sq m, including parking), to be located on the grounds of the Regional Hospital for the Nervously and Mentally Ill on al. Tysiąclecia in Bolesławiec, was to open after New Year.
However, that did not happen. Jarosław Karbowski, director of the aforementioned hospital, explained to istotne.pl that the premises had been renovated. He also said that, in accordance with the agreement, the center would be operated by the Regional Blood Donation and Blood Treatment Center in Wałbrzych, and that the decision to open the facility rested with the RCKiK.
