The damage consisted of the killing and partial consumption of a 24-year-old Polish-breed horse.
The Lwówek-based outlet adds: – The Regional Directorate for Environmental Protection has initiated the procedure for assessing the damage and paying compensation for the losses incurred.
Let us recall. We reported on the matter on January 19. As jelonka.com reported:
(…) probably a large wolf pack mauled a horse in Komarno (Karkonosze County – ed. istotne.pl). The incident took place near the “Muflon” Shelter.
The portal added: – Local hunters have already confirmed the presence of wolves. Tracks and various other signs indicate the presence of approximately 10–12 animals. Furthermore, no other animal, even in a larger group, would have been capable of mauling a half-ton horse.
Janowice Wielkie Municipality issued a warning:
On January 17, the Municipal Office was notified of a suspected wolf attack on livestock in upper Komarno.
In accordance with the procedure, the Regional Director for Environmental Protection was notified as the nature-protection supervisory authority responsible for assessing and handling this type of incident. The day after the report, representatives of the Regional Director for Environmental Protection in Wrocław, in the presence of employees of the Janowice Wielkie Municipal Office and the owner of the livestock animal, established that the report was truthful. In connection with the incident confirmed by the competent authorities, the Municipal Office asks residents to exercise caution if they encounter wolves.
Residents are asked to close their yards, secure waste containers, watch over livestock and pets, and exercise general caution, including warning children not to approach the animals. According to naturalists, wolves, as migratory animals, can cover distances of up to several dozen kilometers per day, which means they may be seen throughout the Municipality, our county and neighboring counties.
