On Wednesday afternoon, the Lubin Police were notified that one of the parents had arrived at a kindergarten to pick up his daughter while completely drunk. The 38-year-old, who did not hold Polish citizenship but lived in Lubin, got into a Toyota and drove to his child’s kindergarten to take her home, despite his state of intoxication. After placing the four-year-old girl in the car, he tried to leave the parking lot, but had great difficulty doing so. Seeing this, one of the parents immediately called for a patrol, which detained the man.

The driver had more than two parts per thousand of alcohol in his system. It also turned out that he was subject to an active ban on driving motor vehicles, issued the previous year by the Court in Legnica.

Police officers from the Prevention Department handed the child over to her mother. Meanwhile, the suspect was charged with three offenses in total: driving while intoxicated despite a court-imposed driving ban, and exposing his daughter to the risk of death or serious injury. In expedited proceedings, he was sentenced to six months’ unconditional imprisonment, a lifetime driving ban, and a fine of PLN 10,000 payable to the fund for victims of road accidents.

The Police appeal to all road users to respond whenever a similar danger arises. Calling 112 to report that someone may be driving while intoxicated can prevent a tragedy on the road and save someone’s life.
