Uniformed officers from Police Station I in Jelenia Góra detained a 32-year-old resident of Poznań suspected of damaging property.
The incident occurred on December 30, 2023, at approximately 3:00 p.m. – Police officers from Police Station I in Jelenia Góra received a report about an intoxicated man travelling along a mountain trail towards Śnieżka. Additional information indicated that the man was aggressive and intended to take his own life – reports Senior Aspirant Waldemar Laszecki from the Jelenia Góra Municipal Police Headquarters.
He adds:
Because of the difficult winter weather conditions prevailing in the mountains, the police set out to search together with rescuers from the Karkonosze Group of GOPR and were to join the rescuers who had already begun the search. The Karkonosze GOPR Group managed to find and initially provide aid to the irresponsible tourist, and shortly afterwards a second rescue team arrived together with police officers.
The man was already hypothermic and additionally intoxicated. The rescuers quickly decided to transport the 32-year-old down the mountain trail on a rescue sled. The spokesperson said: – The man, who was unaware of the seriousness of the situation, nevertheless refused help and also became aggressive and abusive towards the mountain rescuers and police officers. The use of direct coercive measures was necessary, and with the help of the Karkonosze GOPR Group rescuers, the man was placed on the sled.
Unfortunately, during transport the 32-year-old struggled and, in retaliation for the assistance he had received, damaged the transport sled. Senior Aspirant W. Laszecki said: – Thanks to the rescuers from the Karkonosze GOPR Group and the police officers’ determination, the person was nevertheless safely brought down from the mountain trail.
The man was placed in police custody. He will now face court for damaging property for hooligan motives and could face up to five years in prison.
