The incident took place on December 31, 2023. – Officers from the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters detained a man who, covered in blood and holding a knife, was running around the stairwell and banging on apartment doors. The Legnica resident was successfully subdued by officers from the Patrol and Intervention Department – reports Superintendent Jagoda Ekiert, press officer of the Legnica Municipal Police Headquarters.
She adds: – The police’s preliminary findings indicate that shortly beforehand, the 30-year-old damaged several cars on Złotego Floriana Street in Legnica, ran onto the roof of the building and entered one of the apartments via a balcony, then went out into the stairwell, where he tried to enter other apartments.
The officers also established that several hours earlier, the detained man had attacked an 18-year-old whom he encountered by chance with a knife. The victim was taken to hospital in serious condition.
Then, at around 7:00 a.m., the 30-year-old stabbed a woman in another part of the city. She was also taken to hospital with facial injuries.
The detained man was taken into police custody. Legnica police officers gathered evidence, securing, among other items, a knife, a pocketknife and pepper spray.

On the basis of the evidence gathered, the 30-year-old has already been charged by the prosecutor with attempted murder. At the prosecutor’s request, the court ordered the suspect to be held in temporary custody for three months.

The crime carries a sentence of up to life imprisonment.
