Police officers from the Police Station in Karpacz detained a 43-year-old resident of Karkonosze County suspected of creating a direct threat to the lives and health of many people.

The incident occurred on 23 December this year at approximately 1:40 p.m. in one of the multi-family buildings in Sosnówka (Karkonosze County). In his apartment on the building’s fourth floor, while connecting a gas cylinder to a cooker, the man caused a gas explosion, damaging part of the roof and the walls of the apartment. Thirteen people were in the building at the time. Before the emergency services began their operations, the residents left the endangered area on their own; no one was injured.

Immediately after the incident, police officers detained the 43-year-old man suspected of creating a direct threat to the lives and health of many people. It turned out that he was intoxicated. A test showed nearly 3 per mille of alcohol in his system.

After receiving medical attention, the 43-year-old was taken to police custody. On 24 December this year, he was brought before the District Prosecutor’s Office in Jelenia Góra, where he was charged in connection with the case. He will stand trial for the crimes of which he is suspected and could face up to 8 years in prison.
