In February, we reported that a red-light camera would be installed near the petrol station on Spółdzielcza Street. All this was commissioned by the General Inspectorate of Road Transport.

The device began operating on 20 October. We asked the General Inspectorate of Road Transport about the matter. GITD:

The device for monitoring vehicles entering the intersection against a red light, installed in Bolesławiec, recorded 291 violations between 20 October and 30 November.

The inspectors explain:

The fine imposed by way of a penalty notice for failing to obey traffic lights at an intersection is PLN 500 and results from the regulation of the Prime Minister dated 30 December 2021 amending the regulation on the amount of fines imposed by way of penalty notices for selected types of violations.

What is the procedure?

GITD: – Once a violation has been recorded, correspondence containing documentation constituting complete information about the traffic-law violation is sent to the vehicle owner. On the attached forms, the vehicle owner/holder may identify the driver, accept the fine or refuse to accept it.

Today, a driver called us about this matter, asking why there is no countdown timer for drivers at the intersection in question:

There should be countdown timers showing how long the red light will remain on. In large cities, you can tell from a distance whether to stop or speed up, but here there is nothing.

And he stressed that it is no longer even about the fines, but about penalty points, because you can receive as many as 15 for something like this.

He added that the City installed countdown timers for pedestrians, even though they do not need them. After all, a pedestrian can stop at any time, while drivers have it worse.
