Teachers from Germany, France, Northern Ireland and Denmark came to Bolesławiec as part of the English-language “Healthy European Youth” project. – “HEY” aims to promote a healthy lifestyle – says Katarzyna Cieślak-Ostrowska, a teacher at I Liceum Ogólnokształcące and co-author of the project. – It is a two-year undertaking. This year, we will focus primarily on sport and issues related to providing first aid.

– International projects are very important for our school – says Cezary Czernatowicz, the school’s headmaster. – It is also significant that English is the language of the project. This gives students the opportunity to check how well they have mastered the language.

– Only teachers, the “HEY” project coordinators, took part in this meeting – emphasizes Katarzyna Cieślak-Ostrowska. – Our task was to establish a plan for the entire year. Together, we considered what the students would work on during the workshops to be held in March 2011 in Colmar, France, and how they would prepare for them.

The visit’s programme was very interesting. The teachers had the opportunity to tour Wrocław, took part in fitness classes and also completed a short flamenco course.

– This is a very important project – emphasizes Anne, a teacher from Northern Ireland. – We want to reach students and convince them that they can already take care of their health and well-being. These are universal matters. They concern Poles, Danes, Germans, Irish and French alike.

– “Healthy European Youth” is meant to unite European nations. It is excellent that this project is aimed at young people, because they are Europe’s future – adds Karsten from Denmark. – Young people form friendships and stay in touch, for example through Facebook. This is definitely a very good project.

The project coordinator is Katarzyna Cieślak-Ostrowska. The other participating teachers are: Barbara Sobczyszyn, Piotr Matusiak and Damian Dziedziul. The project is financed by EU funds under the Comenius “Lifelong Learning” programme.
