On Saturday, 4 November, the 14th anniversary of the establishment of the Izera Dark Sky Park will be celebrated! A wonderful event is being prepared at Dolnośląskie Centrum Sportu.
The Izera Dark Sky Park is the first park of its kind in Poland and the world’s first cross-border park! It was established to preserve a night sky free from excessive artificial light. As a result, astronomical observations can be conducted in the park under much better conditions than in urbanised areas.
For the 14 years of its existence, the Izera Dark Sky Park/Jizerská Oblast Tmavé Oblohy has hosted many astronomical meetings, workshops and educational programmes, and above all thousands of evenings spent observing a starry sky unpolluted by artificial light.
Attractions prepared for the event:
- lecture – “A Few Words About Meteorites”
- lecture – “Meteorites and Other Visitors from Space”
- lecture – “Do We Need a Dark Sky?”
- lecture combined with a meteorite identification workshop
- Astronomy workshops led by the WROSPACE association (closed workshops; registration required). Topic: constellations – build your own constellation projector. Maximum number of participants: 25. Applications will be accepted in the order they are received.
- Open workshops: Topic 1: Build your own rotating sky map to make observing stars easier. Topic 2: Build your own rocket model and see whether it can fly into space.
- Birthday cake for the Izera Dark Sky Park
Registration for the closed workshops can be completed via the Polana Jakuszycka Facebook page by sending a private message.
We invite you to spend an evening among the stars at #NaPolanie!
