Józef Burniak is running for mayor of Nowogrodziec. “I hesitated for a long time before making this decision,” says the former mayor of Bolesławiec. “Since March this year, residents of Nowogrodziec Municipality have been urging me to stand in the election. In the end, they persuaded me.
Burniak was associated with Nowogrodziec Municipality for many years. He was born in Wykroty and spent more than 20 years of his professional life in Nowogrodziec. Among other positions, he was director of the local Municipal and Housing Services Company. “Although I live in Bolesławiec, I am flesh and blood, bone and bone of Nowogrodziec Municipality,” he emphasizes. “I am probably a less familiar figure to the younger generation of Nowogrodziec residents, but those who remember me from my working days know how much I did for this municipality. I will only mention that I was the first chairman of the Social Gas Construction Committee.
The former mayor of Bolesławiec wants to combat unemployment in Nowogrodziec Municipality and support its cultural and sporting development. As he says, his advantage is his experience in obtaining European Union funds.
The candidate does not want to comment on the current mayor. He merely emphasizes that, in his opinion, the municipality deserves a better manager. “My experience in local government is so extensive that I think I can offer Nowogrodziec and the villages of Nowogrodziec something positive,” Burniak says. “The average resident gets little from what is happening in this municipality. The economic zone only causes problems; it brings no benefits. And I have an idea how to change that.
Józef Burniak is running as an independent candidate. “I am running because of my attachment to the municipality. I have no political ambitions,” he claims. “The people who run on my committee’s list will focus solely on pursuing municipal objectives.
