The apostazja.eu, created by Krzysztof Gwizdała, has so far helped generate nearly 45,000 statements declaring departure from the Catholic Church. This is a major success. Gwizdała is an apostasy specialist and was invited in this capacity to a discussion in Łódź during the Freedom Games.

As the organizers of the Freedom Games write, the issue of leaving the Catholic Church heats up public debate every several months in connection with celebrities’ declarations of apostasy. Everyone discusses it, but it is still difficult to find those who have not only talked about it but have actually done it. Why is it so difficult for those who do not want to be in the Church to leave it? And is it really that complicated? From the Church’s point of view, is a theoretically universal Church full of “dead souls” better, or a smaller one consisting of people who genuinely believe? The issue of apostasy is one of the touchstones of relations between the state, citizens and the Church, and provides an excellent starting point for seeking an answer to a fundamental question: how are we—believers and non-believers—to arrange our lives in one country?

The discussion will be attended by:

  • Anna Ciarkowska – literary scholar, writer and Łódź resident
  • Anna Dziewit-Meller – writer and journalist, editor-in-chief and publishing director of WAB, Buchmann and Uroboros publishing houses
  • Krzysztof Gwizdała – journalist, photographer and operator of the Apostazja.eu portal
  • Rev. Kazimierz Sowa – clergyman, journalist and commentator.

Moderator: Jędrzej Słodkowski – journalist, editor and deputy head of the culture section of “Gazeta Wyborcza”.

The discussion will begin at 10:00 a.m. We invite you to watch.
