Main LPG Failures
Problems with Gas Injectors
There are two types of injectors: serviceable and non-serviceable. In the first case, these are budget models that require a repair kit to be replaced every 40,000 kilometers.
The reason for intervention is physical wear or blockage. Nozzles are among the most heavily loaded components of a gas system. As a result of natural wear, problems with the plunger seat may develop over time.
This can cause interruptions in engine operation on gas, unstable running, vibrations while driving or loss of power.
For non-serviceable models, the procedure is simple: if the nozzle does not work properly after cleaning, it should be replaced. It is worth noting that non-serviceable nozzles last much longer—even up to 200,000 kilometers. Their long service life results from the precise fitting of the components, which naturally affects the price.
One of the factors affecting the service life of gas injectors is clogging. The basic filter in an LPG system often fails to clean the gas adequately. Therefore, the use of reinforced vapor-phase filters with a sump is recommended.
Incorrect injector installation is also a common cause of unstable engine operation on gas. Injectors should be installed vertically, with a slight angle of inclination. The length of the lines from the nozzle to the connection with the manifold is also important—the maximum length is 30 cm. Installation errors can lead to faster plunger wear and cause engine operating problems. Therefore, when looking for specialists to install a gas system, it is worth considering reputable providers offering services related to car gas in Warsaw. Choosing proven professionals ensures a precise approach to installation and a longer service life for the gas system.
Problems with the Reducer-Vaporizer
If we allow the coolant level in the system to become low, the device's resources may quickly be exhausted. Similar problems may result from errors in connecting it to the cooling system or from excessive use of cold starts. In extreme cases, the reducer housing may overheat, disrupting the proper transition of propane-butane into the gas phase. In such a scenario, it is not only the reducer itself that suffers. An insufficient amount of gas can lead to a lean mixture in the cylinders, risking valve damage.
If the vaporizer's capacity does not match the engine's power, fuel-supply problems may occur. A smaller amount of gas means a leaner mixture and increased thermal load on the valves. When choosing a reducer, it is worth considering not only the engine's power but also its fuel consumption. Some engines may have lower power but higher fuel requirements. In the context of modern technological solutions, it is also worth considering a fifth-generation gas system, which will certainly improve the quality and efficiency of the entire gas system in the vehicle.
Problems with Gas-Related Electrical Systems and Wiring
Possible failures in this category vary, but most often involve damaged MAC sensors or gas-pressure sensors. In such a case, the control unit (ECU) does not receive information about the gas status, resulting in an automatic switch to petrol mode.
The Ignition System Does Not Work
If the vehicle runs on gas but shakes during acceleration, the ignition system should be checked. Although switching to petrol may eliminate the symptoms, they will become apparent again when returning to gas. A petrol mixture can be ignited by a weaker spark, whereas propane-butane requires a strong spark generated by a properly functioning ignition system.
