The duo Voskovy [czyt. woskowi] was formed by Bolesławiec residents Filip Libner and Patryk „Mayor” Majewski. They have been working together for about three years. They met through MySpace.com. “I listened to Filip’s productions, and he listened to mine. It turned out that we had very similar musical tastes, so we decided to meet,” Patryk recalls. “At that time, we didn’t even know that we were from the same city.”

Voskovy’s first album, “Get Fejm Or Die Tryin',” will be released on October 10 this year (it can already be ordered). “This album is 100% hip-hop,” says Filip. “Musically, it is a return to the classic hip-hop of the 1990s, the golden era of this music. Hip-hop was later absorbed by the media, chewed up and spat out like gum that no longer has any flavor. What is now promoted as hip-hop, in most cases, has nothing to do with this genre. We try to make more ambitious things.”

Voskovy make electronic music. That does not mean, however, that they do not use live instruments. “Combining sampling with live playing produces an incredible effect,” Patryk admits. What is more, the duo’s music includes elements of blues, funk, soul and Polish jazz. “We cannot say that we focus exclusively on hip-hop and rap. We also create instrumental pieces. We simply like analog sounds,” explains „Mayor”. “We do not want to be confined to any one category,” Filip adds.

“Get Fejm...”

The album features rapper Kuba Witek, also known as Tusz Na Rękach. “We also met him through MySpace.com,” Patryk says. “He is the best person we could have come across. The cooperation is going wonderfully,” Filip emphasizes.

Kuba studies music production in England. “Every day, he has access to a fully professional studio. That is where he recorded his vocals, combined them with our music and remastered the album,” Filip explains. “In my opinion, the sound Kuba achieved is significantly better than what can be heard on most Polish hip-hop albums. But I leave the judgment to the listeners.”

The album also features guest artists. Listeners will hear rappers from the United States and England, as well as a vocalist from Cyprus. “The Cypriot has the voice of an R&B star, yet is practically unknown,” Filip says.

Do it yourself!

The album “Get Fejm Or Die Tryin'” will be released by the Gruby Kot label, which belongs, among others, to residents of Bolesławiec. “At first, we wanted to send the material to various hip-hop labels, but we abandoned that idea,” Filip explains. “We decided that there was no point in entrusting the release of the album to someone else. Especially since we are aware that it is a really good album. We polished it to the limits of what was possible,” he adds. “Besides, we did not want anyone to interfere with our album or impose anything on us,” Patryk adds.

Plans

Gruby Kot also intends to release albums by other artists. “Everything depends, however, on the response to our debut,” Patryk says. Voskovy also want to record a soul album with the vocalist from Cyprus, as well as a second album with Tusz Na Rękach. “It will definitely be better than the first one,” Filip promises.

Concerts are also in the plans. “We would like to be able to devote ourselves exclusively to music,” Filip says. “That is our dream.”
