Organized by the Gminny Ośrodek Kultury i Sportu w Bolesławcu z/s w Kruszynie, the “Letter” literary competition aims not only to save the art of letter writing, which is disappearing in the Internet age, from being forgotten, but also to develop imagination and the ability to express oneself freely through written texts.

The theme of the competition is dilemmas. Both the addressee and the situations described in the text may be fictional. There are, however, two conditions: the letter must be written by hand and must not be plagiarized!

The competition is open to everyone, regardless of age or place of residence. Those wishing to participate should send one letter, written by hand, in legible handwriting (illegible letters will not be judged). The envelope should also contain a card with the participant’s details: first and last name, address and contact telephone number, as well as a statement concerning consent to publication.

The jury will assess participants’ entries in three age categories: 10 to 12 years, 13 to 15 years, and 16 years and above (the organizers have not set any upper age limit). The authors of the most interesting entries can expect material and cash prizes, as well as the possibility of having their winning letters published (provided, of course, that their authors give consent).

Entries should be sent by October 4, 2010 (the postmark date is decisive) to: Gminny Ośrodek Kultury i Sportu w Bolesławcu z/s w Kruszynie, Kruszyn, ul. Kasztanowa 1 b, 59-700 Bolesławiec. All competition winners will be notified (by letter or telephone) of the prize-giving date.
