– Border guards from Legnica and Zgorzelec, working together with police officers from Legnica, were carrying out an operation on the A4 motorway focused on combating illegal migration – reports 2nd Lt. SG Paweł Biskupik, head of the press team of the Nadodrzański Border Guard Unit.
He adds: – On a section of the A4 route in Legnica County, they selected a Renault passenger car and a Fiat, both with Polish registration plates, and directed them to a roadside inspection. The drivers did not comply with the signals to stop and began speeding away from the officers toward the border with Germany.
The officers began a pursuit. 2nd Lt. SG P. Biskupik: – The drivers of the Renault and Fiat disregarded traffic regulations and showed no concern for the danger they were creating for other road users. The fugitives were stopped after several dozen kilometres, near the former border crossing at Olszyna.
The vehicles in question were carrying three Polish men, aged 20, 23 and 46. They wanted to smuggle seven Indian nationals into Germany. The spokesperson:
The two Poles travelling in the Fiat were tasked with escorting the Renault passenger car so that it could reach Germany “safely”—that is, without being stopped by the uniformed services. Meanwhile, in the aforementioned Renault, officers counted seven Indians lying on the floor of the vehicle who had no identity documents with them.
He also adds:
The Indians also had no documents confirming the legality of their stay in Poland. In connection with the foreigners’ attempt to cross the border from Poland into Germany in violation of the regulations, they were detained and proceedings were initiated against them concerning an obligation to return. By court order, until they leave the country, they were all placed in a guarded facility for foreigners.
The Polish suspects were charged; two of them confessed and gave statements. The Border Guard officers: – The prosecutor applied preventive measures against the suspects in the form of police supervision and a ban on leaving the country.
All three now face up to 8 years in prison.
