After the June 4 march in Warsaw and rallies in Poznań and Kłodzko, Donald Tusk is visiting Jelenia Góra. On Thursday, June 22 at 6:00 p.m., a rally attended by the chairman of Platforma Obywatelska began in the market square of the capital of the Karkonosze region.

Both the June 4 march and the subsequent rallies express citizens’ opposition to what those governing Poland are doing. People are demonstrating in defense of democracy, the rule of law, tolerance, minority rights, freedom, women’s rights and the Constitution.

In addition to opposition and Donald Tusk supporters, a large group of trade unionists from the Turów mine and power plant also appeared in the Jelenia Góra market square. They brought banners and flags, including those of “Solidarity” and “Solidarity ’80”. The trade unionists tried to drown out the rally with shouts, boos and the sounds of horns. They did not stop protesting even when the rest of the people were singing the national anthem. The trade unionists demonstrated in defense of “Turów” and thousands of jobs.

As we read on wp.pl, the trade unionists had already announced their participation in the rally in Jelenia Góra:

Marek Dołkowski, deputy head of NSZZ “Solidarity” at KWB Turów, who will also be in Jelenia Góra, confirmed the trade unionists’ trip in an interview with WP. “This is an open meeting, so I think the chairman of Platforma may be willing to explain Mr. Trzaskowski’s statement that Turów should be closed,” he said.

According to information from WP, as many as five coaches filled with trade unionists may travel from Turów to Jelenia Góra. “I neither deny nor confirm it. I cannot say,” Dołkowski said when asked about attendance. “It is not only ‘Solidarity’ going, but five trade unions operating at the mine,” he added.

Another rally attended by Donald Tusk will take place in Wrocław on June 24 (Saturday) at 1:00 p.m. (Plac Nowy Targ).
