Much has happened since the Congregation of the Sisters Adorers of the Blood of Christ was founded in Italy in the 19th century until its founder, St Maria De Mattias, was recognised as the patron saint of Bolesławiec in 2008. The first Adorer Sisters came to devastated Bolesławiec after the Second World War from the territories of the former Yugoslavia, together with waves of re-emigrants returning to Poland. Despite extreme poverty, they devoted themselves to helping others, becoming particularly involved in working with children.
During nearly 80 years of activity in our city, the sisters have earned the great respect of the local community while facing many adversities. To this day, the Adorers continue the work of their founder, and the museum bearing her name provides a moving record of their long and difficult journey.
