On 5 May, at approximately 3:45 p.m., the duty officer at the Municipal Police Headquarters in Jelenia Góra received a report that a young boy was in one of the shops in Jelenia Góra without supervision. The shop employees became concerned about the child and called the police. The 5-year-old said that he had not eaten anything since morning and was hungry.

As a result of the actions they took, the officers determined that the boy had been in the care of his grandmother, who had not even noticed that he was no longer at the apartment of a friend he was supposed to be playing with. Because the child was hungry, the officers bought him the food he had packed into a plastic bag and took him home.

At home, they found the boy’s grandmother, from whom they detected a strong smell of alcohol. The woman admitted that she had drunk “half a bottle.” In the meantime, the boy’s mother returned home. Concerned about his absence, she had reported him missing to the police.

The officers are currently clarifying all the circumstances of the case in detail. The Family and Juvenile Court will be notified about the situation in the family.
