It is worth marking in your calendar today that 12–14 May is the time when we are not staying at home. We spend these days, preferably with our families, attending events and activities organised for the Open Days of European Funds (DOFE). And the programme promises to be very attractive.
DOFE is Poland’s largest campaign promoting projects co-financed by European funds. There are very many of them! The best way to see for yourself what changes have taken place in our surroundings thanks to EU support is to go out for the long weekend. All attractions can be enjoyed free of charge or at a discount.
Get yourself checked!
EU funds support many health-promoting initiatives. No one needs convincing of the importance of prevention. It is worth getting checked, and this can be done during this year’s open days.
Wojewódzki Szpital Specjalistyczny we Wrocławiu has prepared several proposals. On 12 and 13 May, all women, with no age restrictions, will be able to take part in educational workshops. Their aim is to learn proper breast self-examination as early as possible. Women aged 50–69 are also invited for an additional mammogram. Hospital specialists also invite visitors to free videodermatoscopic examinations held as part of the “Znamiona pod lupą” prevention programme. A dermatologist will assess the condition of your skin and, if necessary, refer you for further tests.
It is worth remembering to register for consultations in advance; more details can be found at www.dniotwarte.eu/wydarzenia, under the Lower Silesia tab.
Lectures at the monastery
Meetings organised from 12 to 14 May in an unusual setting also promise to be interesting. This refers to the “Trzebnica – Klasztor Nowych Możliwości” event. Workshops for young people, a seminar and a film screening accompanied by excellent monastery cakes are planned. In organised groups with a guide, visitors will be able to tour the monastery with its medieval underground cellarium, the monastery museum of the Borromean Sisters and an attraction for adults only—the northern tower.
The history of mining
For DOFE, a guided tour will be organised at Stara Kopalnia in Wałbrzych. Participants will see the above-ground and underground parts of the facility and learn about the history of coal, mining and the miners who worked in extremely dangerous conditions. The programme also includes a visit to the SOWA mini science centre—Strefa Odkrywania, Wyobraźni i Aktywności. Tickets are required for the event.
Business, employment and energy
Open days are also a chance to obtain necessary information and expand your knowledge. Agencja Rozwoju Regionalnego ARLEG S.A. at the Business Incubator in Legnica will advise visitors on obtaining EU grants and preparing a business plan; Powiatowy Urząd Pracy w Lubaniu has prepared consultations for students of upper-secondary schools planning their careers and for employers interested in obtaining support from European funds; and Urząd Miasta i Gminy Siechnice invites visitors to free consultations with an energy adviser.
Plenty of attractions
More information about the events can be found at www.dniotwarte.eu. The division into individual voivodeships will help you decide where to go.
