The official opening of the International Ceramics Centre is scheduled for the end of September. Until then, the building will be furnished and equipped. The MCC interior will include, among other things, ceramic sculptures that artists donated to the city after each ceramics plein air workshop.
The building’s interior is very sunny and spacious. Light enters through large windows and a glass roof. The stair structures are lightweight so that they do not visually take up space. The sense of lightness is accentuated by openings through the ceilings of the two floors above the hall. The circular and square openings, enclosed by railings, suggest that the storeys are a kind of terraces. In addition, this design allows sunlight entering through the roof to illuminate the ground floor.
The International Ceramics Centre will include a dance studio, an art studio, a music studio, a glass and stained-glass studio, a ceramics and art studio, and a ceramics and sculpture studio. The ceramics studios will be equipped with ceramic kilns and specialist equipment for forming and processing clay. The ground floor has been designed with an entrance area featuring galleries for displaying and selling ceramics and sculpture, a restaurant, staff and service rooms, and storage facilities. The gallery connecting the building with the “Forum” cinema houses the director’s offices, instructors’ rooms and staff rooms. The modern, tastefully designed building is intended to serve local residents and artists invited to collaborate and create at the new ceramics centre.
