The incident occurred on 27 April, at around 4:30 p.m., on Jana Pawła II Street in Lubań, at a pedestrian crossing. As reported by eluban.pl:

The child was crossing at the pedestrian crossing from the direction of the Willowe housing estate toward the bus depot. When the driver travelling first in the right-hand lane toward Zgorzelec saw that the boy wanted to cross the road, he stopped. Two more drivers travelling behind him did the same. As the child was crossing, an Audi driver approaching from behind decided to overtake the stationary cars. When he saw the boy, it was already too late to brake.

A woman who was among the first to rush to the injured boy’s aid described the entire incident to the Lubań news portal:

The boy was already almost on the pavement; after being hit by the Audi, he did a somersault in the air and fell sideways into the barriers between the carriageways.

The child was taken to a hospital in Jelenia Góra. The officers are appealing for caution and prudence on the road.
