Two extraordinary kilns will stand on the embankment in the Market Square during the Bolesławiec Ceramics Festival. Mateusz Grobelny, a ceramic artist and kiln creator, is a regular guest in Bolesławiec. Last year, his “Aquarium of Fire” project aroused the interest and admiration of Bolesławiec residents and tourists. For this year’s festival, Mateusz Grobelny has prepared exceptional works. “The fire working inside a ceramic kiln during firing has fascinated me for a long time,” says Mateusz Grobelny. “That is why my kilns are becoming increasingly transparent, so that the fire can be observed. Such a transparent kiln is a unique spectacle. It is fascinating to watch the fire change its colour depending on the temperature, or dance as it licks the fired ceramics.
The “Arches of Fire” kiln will be shaped as a reference to the Bolesławiec viaduct. “Wreck of the Extinguished Sun” is an extraordinary kiln that will be built from more than 6,000 panes of glass (5 by 10 cm, 1 cm thick). The structures of both kilns will be erected on the embankment in the Market Square several days before the Ceramics Festival. Firing in the kilns will begin on 19 August, the second day of the festival, and end on Sunday, 22 August.
Announcement from BOK MCC: Bolesławiecki Ośrodek Kultury is seeking 1,200 used firebricks for building the kilns. For detailed information, call 75 644 21 46.
