We should immediately clarify that this is not the female swan from the municipal pond in Bolesławiec. However, in Bolesławiec and the surrounding area as well, feeding swans and ducks bread is unfortunately a common sight.
It is possible that some people do not know that birds should not be fed this kind of food; perhaps others know but ignore these requests and appeals. News of the death of a swan from Gniezno spread through the nationwide media. As much as 3 kg of undigested bread was found in the digestive system of the dead bird. The bird was simply fatally poisoned by it.
As we read on the Facebook profile of Fundacji Przyjaciele Zwierząt w Gnieźnie:
(...) The critically poisoned bird was taken to a veterinarian, who, despite his sincerest efforts, was unable to save the PARENT, whose eggs are being incubated by another abandoned swan...
Therefore, once again, we appeal, remind and ask people not to feed birds bread. This food is unhealthy for them and can cause various digestive-system diseases, as well as the so-called angel wing. In extreme cases, it can also cause the bird’s death. If, while in the vicinity of the municipal pond in Bolesławiec, we want to give the birds something healthy to eat, it is best to use the duck-feeding machine located by the pond.
