One of the items on the agenda of Wednesday’s Bolesławiec City Council meeting was the county police chief’s report on public order and safety in 2022. When Superintendent Tomasz Jagielski had finished his presentation, the councillors—as usual—asked questions. Among those who spoke was councillor from the Bezpartyjni i Ziemia Bolesławiecka club Adam Biesiadecki, who described what had happened to him in July of the previous year.
In broad daylight, before noon, the councillor in question was walking along Prusa Street in Bolesławiec. He was heading to a meeting of one of the City Council committees. At one point, a bearded man came out of one of the nearby shops and, for no apparent reason, kicked the fender of a properly parked car.
The councillor objected, at which point the bearded man verbally abused the local government official, spat on him and hit him with a nearby... chair. (It was a chair from the outdoor seating area of one of the restaurants.)
A. Biesiadecki reported the incident at a committee meeting in July. The head of the Bolesławiec City Council, Józef Pokładek, advised the injured councillor to go to the Bolesławiec Municipal Guard. However, it turned out that it was not possible to check the surveillance footage.
The councillor then reported the matter to the Bolesławiec police. As he pointed out during the April session, the officers discontinued the proceedings after approximately two months.
At the session, Adam Biesiadecki asked the police chief what public safety in Bolesławiec was like if such things happened in the city centre, and in broad daylight.
Superintendent T. Jagielski replied that he was not familiar with the case but would look into it. We will return to the topic.
