The incident occurred at kilometer 74 of the A4 motorway toward Zgorzelec, just before the exit to Chojnów. “The 20-year-old from Wrocław was driving a passenger Volkswagen when, at one point, one of the tires was damaged. The man stopped the car in the right-hand lane and called for roadside assistance,” reports Asp. Łukasz Dutkowiak, press spokesperson for the Provincial Police Headquarters in Wrocław.
And he adds:
Literally moments later, traffic police officers from Złotoryja came upon the incident. Due to the heavy traffic on the motorway and out of concern for the safety of the 20-year-old and his passenger, the officers secured this section of road until the tow truck arrived. During further proceedings, it turned out that the damaged tire was not the only problem the 20-year-old had encountered.
It emerged that the unfortunate driver had committed an offense when getting behind the wheel: he was subject to a court-imposed ban on driving motor vehicles.
The car was secured by roadside assistance, and its driver now faces up to five years in prison.
