In Bolesławiec, work has begun on modernizing all energy-intensive road-lighting fixtures. The city’s new road lighting will be modern, efficient and, above all, energy-saving.

The project includes replacing 3,148 lighting fixtures with modern LED road-lighting fixtures, replacing and installing poles classified for replacement, and painting outreach arms. Lighting cabinets classified for replacement will also be modernized.

It is worth recalling that the project also includes installing an Intelligent Lighting Management System—Smart Lights—which will enable wireless, autonomous control of LED lighting fixtures, with control at the level of individual LED fixtures. This system supports advanced lighting scenarios for individual fixtures as well as groups of fixtures. Bidirectional communication between an LED fixture and the control system will take place via a data-transmission network operating in a licensed band. The system will be expandable, allowing it to connect to and operate not only LED lighting fixtures but also additional Smart City functionalities, such as

  • air-quality parameter sensors,
  • dusk and presence sensors,
  • measurement sensors.

The project is valued at PLN 13.4 million, including PLN 3,369,253.08 from the Bolesławiec city budget.

Installation of the new lighting began on Kościuszki Street. The contractor is Janaszek Electric Sp. z o.o. Work in Bolesławiec will continue until the end of August this year.

The aim of the lighting modernization is to reduce energy consumption and, consequently, atmospheric emissions, which will improve air quality in Bolesławiec. The reduction in CO2 emissions compared with the situation before the reconstruction is estimated at approximately 60%.

The installation of new lamps is expected to improve the city’s appearance, but above all, replacing all outdated and energy-intensive road-lighting fixtures with energy-efficient ones will reduce the costs of lighting the city. Annual savings were estimated at PLN 3,900,000 based on 2022 prices (energy costs accounting for 60%).
