Officers from the Legnica traffic police, while on duty in Gmina Chojnów, noticed the driver of an Audi who was known to police for previously committed offenses and crimes. Knowing that the driver was subject to a ban on driving motor vehicles, they signaled him to stop for a traffic check. The 30-year-old resident of Gmina Miłkowice did not intend to stop, accelerated sharply and began to flee.
The police began pursuing the driver, who continued to flee despite the visual and audible signals, violating traffic regulations and creating a real danger on the road. Driving at excessive speed, the man overtook vehicles while crossing a solid line, forcing oncoming vehicles to brake sharply to avoid a head-on collision. At one point, the 30-year-old lost control of the vehicle and ended his escape in a roadside ditch. The man left the vehicle and began fleeing on foot across the fields, but was apprehended by police after a short chase.
After checks in the Police information systems, it was confirmed that the man was subject to a court-issued ban on driving all motor vehicles. Furthermore, a drug test showed that he was under the influence of intoxicating substances. In addition, the vehicle he was driving had not undergone a technical inspection. After being examined at a hospital, the detained man was placed in police custody.
The 30-year-old will now answer for his reckless behavior and for endangering the health and lives of other road users. Failing to stop for a traffic check is punishable by up to 5 years in prison and a driving ban of up to 15 years.
