If we decide to buy and set off so-called fireworks, we must strictly follow all safety rules. What are they? Be sure to read on…

During the Christmas and New Year period, interest in purchasing so-called fireworks always increases. Setting them off on New Year's Eve has become an almost indispensable part of many private social gatherings and organized events. With the safety of residents and people staying in our region in mind, Lower Silesian police officers are conducting preventive and inspection activities in advance. The aim is to minimize risks associated with the purchase of, among other things, firecrackers and signal flares that have not been approved for sale in our country and whose use may pose a threat.

During this period, increased operations are carried out by traffic, crime prevention and operational division officers. Officers pay particular attention to all situations in which the law is broken and which may consequently lead to dangerous incidents.

Police officers are carrying out increased checks on drivers' sobriety, as well as at numerous temporary outlets and stores selling pyrotechnic products.

Officers appeal to the public to limit the use of loud firecrackers on New Year's Eve because of animals, for which noise and explosions can cause traumatic experiences. If, however, we decide to use fireworks, we must strictly follow the manufacturer's instructions.

It is worth remembering the following rules to safely enter the New Year:

  • before setting off a firecracker, always read the operating instructions,
  • strictly observe all safety precautions,
  • never aim them at people, animals, buildings or objects,
  • do not hold firecrackers, fireworks or other pyrotechnic materials in your hands, especially after lighting them,
  • do not use firecrackers or fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or other intoxicating substances,
  • never use fireworks or firecrackers indoors,
  • do not set off firecrackers or fireworks from windows, terraces or balconies,
  • after an unsuccessful attempt to set off a firecracker, never light it a second time!

Let us work together to ensure that the end of the old year and the beginning of the new one are joyful and safe for us all. Let us remember that, to a large extent, our safety depends on us. Common sense and responsibility should accompany us at all times.
