– Nothing indicates that this was an intentional attack on Poland – said President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda after a meeting with military commanders, heads of other services and the most important politicians responsible for state security.
The President was referring in this way to Tuesday's tragic incident near the Polish-Ukrainian border, in which two Polish citizens were killed. The President said that Ukraine was defending itself against Russia's missile attack, in which the entire territory of our neighbour was being targeted. The missile that fell on Poland was not aimed at Poland.
– At this moment, we have no evidence that this missile was launched by the Russian side. However, much indicates, and there is a high probability, that it was a missile used simply for missile defence, meaning that it was used by the Ukrainian defence forces – President Andrzej Duda said during his address.
A meeting of the National Security Council is currently under way, attended by the President of the Republic of Poland, Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the most important officials in the country.
