In 2020, Jakub Żulczyk, a writer, journalist and American studies specialist, commented on Andrzej Duda’s social media post concerning the US elections. In his post, Żulczyk referred to the president’s lack of knowledge about the election process in the United States, ending his criticism with a strong statement by writing “Andrzej Duda is an idiot”.

In 2023, the Supreme Court upheld the judgment dismissing the case against Jakub Żulczyk for insulting the head of state. The Polish Press Agency reported:

The Supreme Court noted that courts generally consider the word “idiot” to have an insulting meaning. (…) At the same time, the courts found that in these particular circumstances and in this specific case, the social harm caused by this conduct was negligible, Judge Klugiewicz explained. (…)

Jakub Żulczyk’s latest book is the political thriller “Kandydat”, which describes the mechanisms of power, the media and manipulation.

In the same year as “Kandydat”, Aleksandra Sarna, a doctor of humanities, published the book “Debil. Studium przypadku”, in which the author describes the phenomenon of President Andrzej Duda and considers whether Jakub Żulczyk was right to call him an “idiot”.

Jakub Żulczyk will visit the Municipal Public Library on November 7, 2025.
