There are streets in Bolesławiec where, after dark or at night, it is better not to go out without a gas mask. Air pollution caused by fine particulate matter is so high that the analysers say it plainly: do not leave home and do not open the windows.

The data show that, for example, on 6 November the standard on Ceramiczna Street was exceeded sixfold. At 9:00 p.m., the amount of PM2.5 particulate matter was almost 150 µg/m³. To clarify, PM2.5 particulate matter consists of tiny particles with a diameter of less than 2.5 micrometres. For air to be considered clean, the concentration of PM2.5 particulate matter must not exceed 25 micrograms per cubic metre.
